Day 1. Official state visit from Iceland

Tuesday, January 24th

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were present at a gala dinner hosted by Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik. It was taking place at Christian VIIs palace, Amalienborg, on occasion of the official state visit of the Icelandic President couple H.E. Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and Mrs Eliza Jean Reid.

So days went by really quit for me which is why this post is a bit late. But better late, than never. Right? Well, Icelandic President couple H.E. Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and Mrs Eliza Jean Reid payed Denmark a visit which lasted from January 24-26th. So only a couple of days. With this little time, much to see and many places to visit everything were planned minute by minute since they arrive to Copenhagen. The President couple were welcomed by Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik at Christian VIIs palace, shortly before noon. During their first day in Denmark Icelandic President couple visited Christiansborg castle, met with the Danish Prime Minster Lars Lykke Rasmussen and his wife. In the afternoon H.E. Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and Mrs Eliza Jean Reid visited the Black Diamond (The Royal Library in Copenhagen) along with the Queen, where the Icelandic gift was given -one retranslation of the total Icelandic sagas.

In the end of a wonderful day for the Icelandic President couple they were invited as guests of honor to attend a gala dinner taking place at Christian VIIs palace, Amalienborg, with Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik as hosts. I was very delighted to see the the Prince also attended though his retirement last year. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie attended, such as Princess Benedikte and of course the Crown Prince couple. Over a hundred special guests were invited to celebrate the evening along with the President couple and the Danish royal family members. Traditionally the Queen gives a speech before the dinner begin, so did she this evening. The same did the Icelandic President -in Danish which is quite unusual, but really impressive.

Gala dinner means magnificent evening gowns and tiara's! I have read several comments on Mary's evening outfit and they are really different. Some think it's too boring and others love it. I am differently in the last category! I'm thrilled to see her in that reused skirt, first seen in 2005 on a trip to Australia here. According to Royals & Fashion it is an Oscar de la Renta design, something I have never heard before. Of course this does not mean that it's not true, just that I have never heard it before. Nevertheless, I think it makes everything about her figure even more dazzling. Love how it moves when she walks. I was so convinced that she had worn the skirt once more, after 2005, and with a little help the event has been found. It was in 2010 when Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik hosted a official state visit from Russia at they were invited to a gala dinner (also taking place at Amalienborg castle), here. At the occasion in 2010 she was wearing a similar lace top as she did at this dinner. Then we have to talk about jewellery for a moment. The tiara is the one bought on auction a couple of years ago, nothing new about that. What's really exciting are the earrings. To me they look new! Simply gorgeous. Would really love to see a close up. Sure you also noticed that the couple were wearing another ribbon than the usual light blue Order of the Elephant. This darker blue one is the Icelandic order called 'Icelandic Falcon Order'. All royal member wore this order.
